Fragmented Memories | Projections.

I’ve been working in the project rooms at uni for the past couple of days experimenting with projections/film. Today I was exploring projecting photographic images on to torn bits of paper that had been strung up with pieces of cotton. Here’s a few images of the process and results:

This is just a mock up for a large scale installation I’m planning that will involve hundreds of these torn pieces of paper and a film that will be projected on to them. At the moment I’m still playing with the translucency of the different pieces of paper and different ways of using the projector to manipulate the images. Feedback as always is really appreciated! :)

Jennifer West: Experimental Film Maker | Inspiration

Jennifer West is an L.A based artist and experimental film maker. She is most well known for her hand manipulated film celluloid that she destroys and distresses using a variety of methods such as burning, splicing, dousing the film in perfume, mascara, jack daniels and even skateboarding over it.

The two images above are film stills from her work featuring scenes from Jaws (1975) that she has distorted with streaks of mascara. The title of the work is ‘Heavy Metal Sharks Calming Jaws Reversal Film’ (2011)

Layering Acetate & Textures: Process & Inspiration.

These images were made using an experimental technique that was inspired by Jennifer West’s work (which I’ll be updating about in another post later)
They were made my transferring the photographs to a sheet of acetate and then using inks and mascara to add texture. I scanned the acetate and then layering another photograph over the top using photoshop.

Inspiration: The Manchester Museum

Yesterday I took a trip to the Manchester museum and took a few photographs of some things that inspired me. I’m ashamed to say there are barely any pictures of actual historic bones/animals etc. I was just fascinated with the lighting, presentation and exhibition spaces. Anyway, apologies for the really awful quality of the images, the camera I used was pretty rubbish.

Update & Recent Works: Inkjet Prints on Tracing Paper.

I’m very glad to be back blogging again, I’ve been crazy busy with deadlines and uni work since Christmas and haven’t really had any new work to put up here so decided to take a bit of a hiatus from running the site. I’m back and pleased to share with you some new work I’ve created recently.
I’ve been working with inkjet prints, layering photographic images and tracing paper. Here’s just a few experimental pieces I scanned in this morning.

Today I came across an artist whose work is really similar to that of Joachim Schmid. Dick Jewell is an artist who collects found photographs and pieces them back together.

I’ll post more about his work at a later date, I’m currently spending every waking second working on my dissertation that’s being handed in on Monday. It’s been so useful for contextualising my work and I’ve been (attempting) to apply psychoanalytical theory to the works of Sally Mann, Richard Billingham and Colin Gray which has actually been really interesting! When that is finally out of the way I’ll be back posting regularly again. I still look forward to receiving emails etc if you have any questions though, so feel free to get in touch! xo
